"Changes in gender-based power dynamic permeate American contemporary culture today, where traditional male dominant structures in entertainment and politics are being scrutinized. Visibility of movements such as Times Up and #metoo are increasing and so are the possibilities of artist diversity and voice. As a choreographer, I seek to question current and past conventions seen over and over again on the concert stage. I want to challenge the validity and relevance of the male dominant structures in existing iconic duets, across the genres, and deconstruct and reimagine these works into a new solo work to reflect the social change I wish to see."

Our residency program hosts multidisciplinary artists
from all over the world since 2010. ARTErra is placed in a green beautiful village
between mountains in central/north Portugal. Our space have several facilities and available
resoureces and tools that allow artists to
develop and gain new insights in they´re own
artistic process, by providing them with accommodations,
work place and cultural and ideas
exchanges with the community and other artists. We have access to a workroom in the
main square of the village where small
exhibitions, talks and performances
can be presented.
This is the perfect place where to do
"try out" and display your work.
During the years we have built
a strong relationship with the people
of Lobão da Beira who are open and
curious about ARTErra artists' works. We are now accepting applications
for art projects in our residency. The application process is
simple and free of charges. We accept application from artists who work in
all disciplines and at

Ever Blanco Black and White Draws
Este artista originjário da Costa Rica mas residente nos estados Unidos estará em residência certa de 2 semanas no ARTErra.
"My latest body of work focuses on encouraging the viewer to have a closer engagement with the environment and creative education for a myriad of complex systems and its inhabitants. My work wants to be aesthetic and useful but at the same time a psychological suggestion to question ethical ways of coexistence. Using all natural materials and even found objects, I present labor intensive images thought a network of tiny brush stokes the resulting image between a semi-realistic black and white photograph and a large scale drawing."

Gonçalo Beja da Costa, a Portuguese Visual Artist searching for time in residency
This is a Portuguese visual artist that decided to come to spend a week in our residency to be abble to focus and allow his thoughts to drift and find new ways, and aproaches to his working process.
In a residency, you have a escape from your daily routines and the plurality pops up and allow us to create with a new freedom of thinking.

Gonçalo Beja da Costa é um artista visual portugues que procurou o ARTErra para trabalhar durante cerca de uma semana.
Sobre esta residência artística, Gonçalo diz-nos o seguinte:
"Há um modo de pensar para o qual as formas artísticas são momentos privilegiados de reflexão numa
possibilidade de produção artística nas suas modalidades mais diversificadas, como campo de conhecimentoe investigação. O meu trabalho convoca um vasto conjunto de ferramentas, pela afirmação da pluralidade de
meios, conceitos e abordagens, onde há lugar para o pensamento livre.
Os trabalhos focam-se no orgânico, no desgaste das superfícies, no brilho do aço, do cobre, da madeira, no
brilho da terra e das plantas, sendo o Tempo a palavra e o factor chave. Um trabalho em tecido e papel onde a
mancha se forma e se destaca ao encontro da textura, sombra, luz, como se anunciasse placas metálicas onde
a ferrugem assenta e denuncia o tempo e o ar que transforma a superfície das coisas.
Trata-se de um trabalho sem premeditação, extremamente veloz, em que a mão se solta e avança rapidamente
sobre o suporte quase às cegas. Um trabalho em que as contingências do processo e as associações
inconscientes tomam a dianteira."

From Ireland, Dara K, a visual artist in residency
Dara is an artist from the east coast of Ireland and is currently
working on a series of landscapes. His paintings are expressive and
often feature areas of chaos and abstraction contrasted with refined
figurative details. Dara's work attempts to capture the fluid and
organic nature of the landscapes, inviting the viewer to experience the
movement and depth within the painting. During his stay at ARTErra Dara
aims to explore and experiment with the elements within his paintings
and to exhibit his new body of work at the end of his residency.
Este artista irá pintar as suas paisagens durante o tempo de residência.
Considera o seu trabalho contrastante entre o detalhe e a abstração, mas sempre tentando captar a fluidez organica da natureza nas paisagens.
No final da estadia irá mostrar o seu trabalho.
