"A minha residência no ARTErra é uma continuação do meu mais recente trabalho cujo tema se prende com a ideia da memória (negação, demência, desinformação) e como colectamos os dados e isso afecta a nossas vidas. Este processo requer formas de me conectar e comunicar com a população.

Desenhos de Memória : pedir ás pessoas que desenhem uma memoria( de natureza positiva). Deixá-los escolher um tempo limite para executar o desenho ( entre 5 a 30 minutos) Eu usarei o mesmo tempo para fazer o seu retrato. Tirarei também fotografias deles com os seus desenhos. O trabalho, deles e meu, estará disponivel para observação.

As imagens são uma amostra de estudos que fiz para o projecto, usanto uma seleção alietoria de pessoas de Chico."

"When I applied for the ARTErra residency I was thinking about my recent work with the idea of memory: (denial, dementia, disinformation) and how to collect data about its affect on our lives. This would require finding ways to connect and communicate with the local inhabitants.

Memory Drawings: asking locals to make a drawing of a particular memory (positive in nature). Have them choose a time limit: from 5 minutes to 30. I will use that same time to draw their portrait immediately following their memory drawing. I will also take photos of them with their drawings. The work, theirs and mine, will be available for comparative display. Below are a sample of studies I did for the project using a random selection of our local population here in Chico."

UTE EISINGER @ ARTErra - 2sd of April to 30th of April

"I am a Vienna based poet and essayist who contributes to poetry magazines and published a couple of poetry books as well as does poetry translations into my native German. My writing comes from abstraction. It is more comparable to art than to story-telling and it is more comparable to music than to message. My last poetry collections were on sculpture, painting and the city of Rome. Now I am interested in morphology and form and generally the question, how landscape forms the people cultivating it. So I will walk around Tondela, keep my senses open and try to understand what is going on."


"Eu sou uma poetisa e ensaísta Austríaca, sediada em Viena. Publiquei dois livros de Poemas, contribuo para revistas de poesia e também fiz tradução de poesia para o meu idioma nativo, o Alemão. A minha escrita vem da abstracção. É mais comparável à arte, que a contar histórias. É mais comparável à música, do que à mensagem.  Apresentei a minha ultima colecção de poemas em Roma, sob a forma de escultura e pintura. De momento estou interessada em morfologia, forma e em particular, na questão: Como as paisagens moldam aqueles que as cultivam? Planeio deslocar-me por Tondela, com todos os meus sentidos bem atentos a tudo o que se passa em meu redor."

ARTErra is a multidisciplinary artistic residency placed in the green and friendly village of Lobão da Beira. We began our project with the aims of hosting artists by providing them with accommodations, work place and cultural and ideas exchanges with the community and other artists.
The studios, surroundend by a big garden, a small animal yard and an orchard, are spacious and bright spaces perfect to do some research and develop your project in a very relax and comfy environment.
We have a workroom in the main square of the village where small exhibitions, talks and performances can be presented. This is the perfect place where to do "try out"research and show your work. During the years we have built a strong relationship with the people of Lobão da Beira who are open and curious about ARTErra artists' works and are willing to participate in our ongoing projects.
We accept application from artists and teams who work in all disciplines and at any stages of their career.

Louise Winter (UK) researching & developing concepts in residency

Louise Winter é o nome desta artista pluridisciplinar que nos chega de Inglaterra onde estudou Belas Artes e termina com distinção.(MA Fine Art, Northumbria University, Newcastle (Distinction) )
Esta artista diz-nos acerca da sua estadia em residência que;  "Estou particularmente interessada na residência Arterra porque o meu trabalho preocupa-se com a exploração da relação entre o local ( um lugar real, localizável no mapa ) e um não- local (materiais que são recolhidos a partir de um local e levados para o contexto de um estúdio ou galeria ) . Eu estou interessada em saber como esse não- local ou " não-lugar " pode começar a questionar os limites do real criando uma tensão entre as leituras literais e abstratas de objetos como significantes ."  
Louise estará connosco cerca de 2 semanas a reflectir e desenvolver diferentes facetas do seu trabalho, aproveitando as caracteristicas deste espaço e sua tranquilidade para numa lógica de laboratório poder estar focada e a reflectir sobre as suas produções e projectos futuros.
Esteja atento, e visite a nossa artista em residência. Ela irá trabalhar e utilizar a "Casinha de Vidro" no adro de Lobão da Beira onde tem vontade de trocar histórias e sorrisos com a comunidade.

"I believe the role of Artist in Residence at ARTErra will provide me with the unique

opportunity to further develop my practice and research skills at this pivotal stage of my

career, within the fertile environment of exchange and debate that only a residency can

provide. This period of development will be strategic towards my future career ambitions by

helping to develop my network, profile and professional portfolio.

The residency in Tondela will also enable me to engage with an entirely new site, community

and group of artists. By developing an ambitious new body of work in response to this

setting I will continue to interrogate historical and cultural assumptions of site and explore

the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural and creative exchange for the

reception of art, regionally, nationally and internationally."

Josep Santamaria (Spain visual artist) in residency

Forgotten meanings, 2015

Este artista visual espanhol estará em residência no ARTErra 2 semanas.
O seu trabalho será dividio em duas partes, uma de documentação e observação recorrendo a esboços e fotografias de Lobão da Beira e arredores. E uma segunda fase de execução de quadros em acrilico e outros materiais. Estes quadros pretendem reflectir sensações e emoções que a paisagem circundante lhe provocaram.

"The project I will perform in the residency will be based on the exploration of the emotional connections

between individual and landscape. It will consist in a series of paintings in acrylic and other media on boards.

My project will follow two phases. Firstly, a visual documentation process will be taken around the

surroundings of Lobao de Beira, making sketches, notes and photographs to be used as a reference for my

paintings. The second phase will consist in the realisation of paintings in the workshop of ARTErra. These

paintings would reflect the sensations and emotions that the landscape of Tondela could generate on me."

Gerda Ritzmann & Erika Diserens (Suiça-CH)- Land Art

Estas duas artistas estarão cerca de duas semanas em residência no ARTErra.
Chegam-nos da Suiça onde já iniciaram colaboração em alguns eventos.
São as duas artístas plásticas e visuais e vêm com uma enorme vontade de aprofundar as suas linguagens artísticas e cooperação.  Explorar o meio ambiente e materiais  que a natureza e envolvência desta zona facultam são o grande ponto de partida para este trabalho.

"Erika and I, both independent artists, nevertheless, have found us to cooperate for

installations. We would like to get involved in new sceneries, experiments and discoveries.

Alone and also together exploring, inspire us mutually and find step by step materials and

resolutions for common projects. We have found out how fruitful such cooperation can be.

As well we like to do experimental research using the print press.

We feel drawn from the picturesque surrounding and scenery of  ARTErra- Residências

Rurais Artísticas and look forwards with pleasure to the challenge to deal with the

uniqueness of this region, to create pieces of art which stay in harmony or in contrast to

nature surrounding.

The way to a common project appears to us exciting and inspiring, we would like to

document it in sketches, models.

The created models and the documentation will remain in ARTErra- Residências."

Christine Le Roux from SA to ARTerra to write

Christine Le Roux é uma escritora sul africana, que procura o ARTErra para poder trabalhar em dois dos seus livros.

Apesar de viver num local bastante tranquilo e isolado, onde muitas vezes também acolhe artistas em residência, sentiu a necessidade de ela própria enquanto artista estar envolvida num contexto diferente e onde pode gerir o seu tempo  com o foco no terminus destes dois livros.

Cornelia Christina le Roux (writing as Christine Barkhuizen le Roux) lives on a farm in the Little Karooin South Africa. This area is in the South Western region of the Cape Province. The nearest town Barrydale is 30km away. Her husband farms with dairy cattle, vineyard and apricots. The area is remote and secluded, which Christine believes, turned her to writing. “I had to make the rocks and the veld my friends – the nearest neighbours are 6 km away. I have a footing in the literary world, but it is good that I can escape and be by myself and the characters I create . . . .”
