Josephine Shokrian é uma artista e cineasta sedeada  em Nova York. O seu trabalho baseia-se em práticas de gravação de campo de paisagens de  fundo em 16mm para cinema, explorando as intimidades do lugar através de ambientes interiores e exteriores construídos; muitas vezes, misturando idéias sobre metodologias de filmes relacionados com o turismo, etnografia e documentários.
"O meu interesse é investigar as identidades culturais, pessoais e históricas do local e a multiplicidade de narrativas que podem existir: o atual, o mítico e o imposto. Gostaria de fazer uma peça numa região rural e olhar para as várias entradas de um lugar através do som e da imagem.”
Josephine vai estar em residência de 1 a 22 de Agosto.

Josephine Shokrian is an artist and filmmaker based in New York. Her work draws from a background in 16mm landscape filmmaking and field recording practices, exploring the intimacies of place through constructed interior and exterior environments; often engaging with ideas concerning tourism, ethnography and documentary film methodologies.   

“My interest  is to further investigate the cultural, personal, and historical identities of place and the multitude of narratives that may exist: the current, the mythic and the imposed. I’d like to make a piece in a rural region and look at the various entryways into a place through sound and image.”

Josephine will stay in residence from the 1^st to the 22^nd August.                             

Mattea Perrota, pintora italiana em residência

Nasceu em Veneza, atualmente vive e trabalha em Topanga Canyon, na Califórnia. A Mattea é formada em Práticas Artísticas pela Universidade da Califórnia e grau de Mestre em pINTURA da Santa Reparta School of Art, Florença, Itália.
"Espero desafiar-me e explorar ainda mais a minha prática através do desenho e da pintura.
Explorar o meu trabalho fora do meu ambiente de trabalho 'normal' e zona de conforto.
Espero, também, conectar-me mais profundamente à minha ascendência portuguesa e aplicar a minha herança ancestral no meu trabalho. "

Mattea Perrotta estará em residência no Arterra de 12 a 26 de Julho.
Born in Venice, actually lives and works in Topanga Canyon, California.
She has a Bachelors of Art Practice University of California Berkeley, and a Degree in Master Painting Santa Reparta School of Art, Florence, Italy.
”Hope to challenge myself and further explore my practice through my medium of drawing of and painting. Explore my work outside of my ‘normal’ work space and comfort zone. I also hope to connect deeper to my portuguese heritage and apply my ancestral heritage back into my work."

Valerie Opielsky, compositora e muito mais em residência

Valerie Opielski vem de Brooklyn, NY. É música autodidata, compositora, cineasta e, por vezes também é performer. Trabalha como compositora e intérprete em trilhas sonoras para cinema e teatro.
“Sou fascinada pelos sons naturais e seria uma vantagem estar no Arterra para captar gravações de campo para usar no meu trabalho. Estas gravações incluem sons de quinta e de pássaros, sons de água, aldeias, montanhas e sons da cidade. No Arterra vou trabalhar na recolha de materiais de som e fazer uma instalação sonora interativa / uma performance no meio rural envolvente de Tondela.”

Valerie Opielski estará em residência no ARTErra de 2 a 14 de Julho

Valerie Opielski is from Brooklyn, NY. She is a self-taught musician, composer, filmmaker and sometime performance artist. She also works as a soundtrack composer and performer for film and live theater, including adult puppet theater.
“I am fascinated with natural sounds and would take advantage of being at ARTErra to make field recordings to use in my work. These would include farm and bird sounds, water sounds, village, mountain and town sounds. At ARTErra I will work on collecting sound materials and making an interactive sound installation/performance in the countryside of Tondela.”

Escultora/ Cenógrafa Marta Fernandes da Silva em Residência com o Projeto "FAVOLAS"

Marta Fernandes da Silva, natural de Mortágua, atualmente a residir em Lisboa, licenciada em Escultura pela Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto (2003), com um Curso de Cenografia com o cenógrafo J.C. Serroni (Brasil 2004) e uma especialização em Cenografia na Fac. Arquitetura da Universidade Técnica de Lisboa.

A esultora/ cenógrafa tem trabalhado como freelancer com várias entidades artísticas tais como Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora, Teatro A Barraca, Lua Cheia – Teatro Para Todos e ACERT – Associação Cultural e Recreativa de Tondela.

Em residência no ARTErra de 17 a 23 de Junho, a artista pretende dar continuidade ao seu mais recente projeto “FAVOLAS” – criaturas de dentes grandes e muito engraçadas que chegam à imaginação da artista “das mais diversas maneiras. Desde receitas culinárias, a esboços em pétalas de flores e telegramas biodegradáveis de tinta mágica.“

Marta Fernandes da Silva, was born in Mortágua, actualy living in Lisbon, graduated in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto (2003), with a Course Stage with the designer JC Serroni (Brazil 2004) and a specialization in Scenography at Fac . The sculptor / set designer has worked as a freelancer with various artistic entities such as Teatro e Marionetas de Mandrágora, Teatro A Barraca, Lua Cheia – Teatro Para Todos and ACERT – Associação Cultural e Recreativa de Tondela..
In residence at the ARTErra (17 - 23 June), the artist intends to continue her most recent project "FAVOLAS" - creatures with large teeth and very funny coming to the imagination of the artist "in various ways. Segunda residência de Lucie Chan no ARTErra

Atualmente a viver e a trabalhar em Vancouver, Lucie Chan participou em várias exposições individuais e colectivas a nivel nacional depois de completar algumas residências artísticas.

"Gostaria de enfrentar o desafio de comunicar com as pessoas de Lobão da Beira numa linguagem diferente da minha, perceber de que  outras formas comunicamos, por meio de ações, contato visual, esboços, etc. A minha intenção é fotografar e fazer obras de arte com base no material recolhido no o ambiente natural das pessoas com quem venha a falar,  sobre o que elas escolherem para partilhar comigo. "

Lucie Chan estará no ARTErra de 15 de Junho a 15 de Julho

Guyana born artist Lucie Chan, currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC. She teaches at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and holds a Bachelor of Design from the Alberta College of Art and Design as well as a Master from the Nova Scotia college of Art and Design. She has shown nationally in various group and solo exhibitions as well as completed several artist residencies. This will be the second residency at ARTErra.

“I am interested in the challenge of communicating with people in a language different from my own, seeing what other ways we communicate, through actions, eye contact, sketches, etc. My intention  is to photograph and make art works based on the follow: the natural surroundings, the people I speak with, what they choose to share with me.”

Lucie Chan will be at ARTErra from the 15^th June to the 15^th July.

Escritor Gaylor Brewer em residência

Gaylord Brewer tem um doutoramento em Inglês pela Ohio State University, é professor no
Departamento de Inglês na Middle Tennessee State University. É um escritor com várias
publicações nomeadamente de poesia.
Esta residência será a terceira desde "a súbita aparição, no primeiro dia de residência, da
personagem Ghost que desencadeou a escrita de uma série de poemas que tomou conta
da minha energia e atenção". Em residência no ARTErra, Gaylord Brewer pretende
continuar a escrever sobre esta personagem: "Tenho um arquivo cheio de notas, esboços
e idéias para mais um conjunto de poemas, diferente dos outros e trazendo o ciclo maior
da passagem do Ghost para o seu encerramento"

Gaylord Brewer estará em residência de 11 Maio a 10 Junho.

 

Gaylord Brewer has a Ph.D. in English by the Ohio State University and he is a Professor in the
Department of English, in the Middle Tennessee State University. He is a writer with various
publications of poetry.

This residency will be the third since “the sudden appearance, on my fist day, of the character
who became the figure of Ghost in a series of poems that took over my energy and attention
for the duration”. In ARTErra´s residency, Gaylord Brewer intend to continue to write about
this character: “I have a file full of notes, sketches, and ideas for another suite of poems,
distinct from the others and bringing the larger cycle of Ghost’s passage to closure.”
